Barnsley crowned Yorkshire Premier League Champions!

For the first time in the 40 year history of Barnsley Squash Club, the first team has won the prestigious Yorkshire Premier League title. Following the last match of the season, a close 3-2 win over Dunnington, the team earned enough points to take the title. The match was witnessed by a full house crowd at Shaw Lane, Dunnington featuring two World ranked players in No.22 Chris Simpson and No. 48 Shaun Le Roux, who beat Barnsley's 1 and 2 Andy Whipp and Pete Bilson, but comfortable wins for Taylor, Peach and Stead secured a thrilling victory for the Club. Despite playing at this level for fifteen years this is the Barnsley Club's first ever title.
Great credit for this historic win must go to the Club Management team who have developed and supported the squad over these years and to the membership for their support in this. Additionally, the success would not be achievable without a loyal and generous group of sponsors who have contributed year on year to assist the Club in fielding a competitive squad at this level.
Barnsley are Yorkshire champions, finishing ahead of the big clubs including all the Leeds and Sheffield sides and the famous Pontefract club. It is a very significant moment for the Shaw Laners.
