Other news

Following on from the sensational news that Barnsley Squash Club had won their first Yorkshire Premier League Title in the forty year history of the Club were the Internal Club Championships. The level of interest in Squash in Barnsley continues to grow, and its status as top dog in Yorkshire ahead of the Leeds, Sheffield and Pontefract clubs only enhances this. A packed house at Shaw lane saw the culmination of the club's 2014 annual competitions. Many of the Club's 300 members took part and it produced a full and entertaining night of finals. The 2014 Open winner for this his first Open title was Richard Briggs who set a club record by also winning the Veterans title in an earlier match and by playing solid squash throughout. His opponent in both finals was Phil Wakefield who put up a resolute display in both matches. The Ladies Championship winner was once again Claire Oliver with Rebecca Wilson being runner up. The Handicap Final was the night's most entertaining match with an all action display from Darren Wilson securing him the win over a heavily handicapped Colin Mylett, who went very close to making up the deficit. The Senior Trophy for players aged 60 and over went to Roy Robinson, with David Guest finishing runner up. Roy won his first Championship event at Shaw Lane 35 years ago and was a founder member in 1974. The Plate Competitions for players losing in the first rounds were won by Martin Day (Vets) and Dave Priceman (Open) with Shane O'Keefe and Colin Mylett respectively as runner up. Prizes were presented afterwards by Club Secretary Malcolm Harrison and Chair Ian Meade followed by a Club buffet for players and guests.

A group of Barnsley members attended the 2013 National Championships at Manchester.
They attended the Finals with the main event being James Willstrop v Nick Matthews, which Nick won by three games to love.
The images show Aubrey Ngnomo, Richard Maxwell, Neil Padgett, Paul Almond, Joe Douglas and Kevin Canetti together with Nick and James.  Barnsley won the raffle held to support  the CRY (Cardio Risk in Youngsters ) organisation, the prize being this fine print, which is now hanging proudly at Barnsley Squash Club. Thanks guys!
